Inside the heart of a Muslim in Switzerland
assalamoalaikom warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu
Two days since I am back from visiting Switzerland. And still it all feels like a beautiful dream. Snow capped mountains, lush green gardens, turquoise lakes, ice-cold rushing waters, waterfalls, forest-green cliffs are almost too good to forget.
I never imagined being in Switzerland ever, mainly because I never really deeply desired to. I always thought these are the beauties of the world, giving coolness just to the eyes. And there is nothing there for the deen, but alhamdolilah when Allah took us there, I had to change my mind.
Sitting on panoramic trains while travelling from one place to another, we were always uttering words like: ‘ Look at that view’….’SubhanAllah’… ‘don’t miss that’…’So beautiful’ etc.
But inside of me, there was more…
Inside of me was a voice saying: Maybe Allah SWT put a glimpse of jannah on earth. But Allah SWT also says in Quran that in jannah there will be things that eyes had never seen. How much more beautiful jannah would be! how much more beautiful the Creator Himself would be!
Inside of me, would be a voice saying: When we read Quran, and read about description of jannah like ‘gardens underneath which rivers flow’ or read about certain virtues of acts like: getting a house in jannah or a castle in jannah, or read about how jannah will have dense green colour, why don’t we get attracted? There is surely something about mountains, gardens, trees, houses and water. Its human nature to love this combo. I could see people clicking and flashing, I could see people taking selfies. We are designed to love the nature. A little trailer on earth is enough for believing.
Inside of me would be a voice saying: My Pakistan is nothing less! If only someone would develop the tourism industry and bring the technology to provide accessibility like the Swiss trains, cruises and cable cars. If only, corruption would go down…
Inside of me would be a voice saying: How do the locals feel about it. They live here. Are they happy people, living in scenic beauty, fresh air, and agriculture? Surely, this is good for tourists but when it becomes an everyday thing, it cannot give you happiness. No worldly thing can ever bring true happiness because it is bound to end. The heart finds true happiness in spirituality. You may have everything on earth and yet be the saddest person on earth.
Inside of me would be a voice saying: These Swiss mountains are as old as the earth and unbelievably beautiful. We loved to be on top of them and see them. And then there are mountains of Makkah. Allah chose the mountains of Makkah and Madina to have nisbat(relation) with out Prophet Muhammad S.A.W even though they did’nt appear as beautiful. Prophet s.a.w said about Mount Uhud : “Verily, the mountain of Uhud loves us and we love it.” No where in the Islamic history, is the mention of Swiss mountains. Allah chooses whomsoever and whatsoever He wills.
Inside of me would be a voice saying: Why did Allah choose Saudi Arabia, a barren dessert for His house i.e Ka’abah? Allah could have made Saudi Arabia a place like Switzerland for His house? Maybe because Allah SWT wanted to show His grandeur and power that how He can make a place of no physical beauty into something where the tawaf around His house is performed by Hajis 24/7.
Dearest diary, inside of me was so much more. I wish I could write a poem, to sum up these feelings in few words. But I am not a poet. I wish to draw a picture to engrave what I saw, but i am not an artist…
