Take advantage of 5 things
asslamoaliakom wr wb dear diary
Hope this email finds you in good health. Lots of changes have taken place in life now since my last post to you. Alhamdolilah i have two daughters now. Maryam is mashaAllah 3 and Rumaysa is mashaAllah 9 months. And they both keep me running after them alhamdolilah. My husband was asked to leave Intel last month and now he is at home until he starts his new job soon inshaAllah. We were in the process of leaving Swindon and moving to London but with ongoing istikharas and mashwaras, we have decided to delay our move for another three months before taking the big step of leaving our beloved Swindon, after which you have been named.
So as the kids are asleep and husband is away for nihari with friends, I thought you and i can have some good time chatting.
You must have come across this hadith of prophet : ”Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth before you become old; your health, before you fall sick; your wealth, before you become poor; your free time before you become preoccupied, and your life, before your death.” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas in the Mustadrak of Hakim & Musnad Imam Ahmad. Sahih)
Its a beautiful one and so true specially this part: your free time before you become preoccupied… now that I am married and have two kids, I hardly get time for myself. I can now remember the time i had when I was a student. Even though i was busy with tests, assignments, exams, presentations all the time, the time I had was solely mine and had no real responsibilities. I could come home and ask ammi for food, sleep whenever I liked and however much i wanted to, read books, listen to bayans, attend events whenever and however much i wanted to. But after marriage and kids, its not the same anymore because husband, kids and home need your attention all the time. Everybody keeps pulling you in all the directions and time is only available in bits and pieces. Even as I am writing to you, I am doing so quickly because either of the girls can wake up crying from sleep and then calling me to soothe them. And then I can be left with unfinished post in my draft for days =p
Many things are still pending in my life now which i thought i would do once i would have ‘free-er’time like learning amma juz surahs, or going through mariful quran (tafseer book) or learning more duas etc. Alhamdolilah, it doesn’t mean you can’t do all of this at all as you move on in life, but what i am trying to say is: don’t delay. If you have free time now, do it while you are still a student, still unmarried, still just-married, still have one kid, still have two kids and so on. Life just gets busier and busier. Every step forwards and we realize we were much free-er earlier.
This year’s trip to pakistan, I told my baji to whom I used to recite my quran and get my tajweed corrected that during my student life, I used to listen to Surah mulk, Surah waqiah at night and surah Yaseen regularly while on my way to IBA in the point. After months and months of listening, I almost could hear qari Sudais everytime I would read the surah or hear the surah. I had never tried to learn it but it was the power of kalam of Allah itself that the words would come from my ears to my heart and then on to my tongue.
So she told me to put an extra effort and do the hifdh of Surahs. We only managed Surah Waqiah and Surah Mulk because of limited time and days in Pakistan. As I started doing it, i realized it became extremely easy and it was as if I was just recapping and making it firm in memory. Otherwise, the task would have been much harder and would have required many many days to achieve that goal.
The free time that was spent before sleeping at night and the time that was spent in the journey from home to IBA is worth an aakhirah now Alhamdolilah…
Makes me wonder, how much true and how much depth would the other parts of the hadees have.
May we all realize the value of free time and the worth of the golden words of Prophet S.A.W. And may Allah accept all efforts. Ameen
until next time,
wasalaam
